Through my sculpture, I try to outwardly explore alternative ways to look and think about the world around me. Instead of having a fixed idea of what I am creating with each work, I prefer to begin with a general subject and allow the creative process to inform the work itself. I endeavor to create works of art that reveal more to me than I had intended when I began the creative process. Linear abstraction motivates the visual conversation within my work. My natural curiosity and an openness to experimentation, influences my exploration of various clay bodies, firing temperatures and techniques.
As a studio art major I attended several universities, St. Edwards University in Austin, The University of Hawaii at Manoa and The University of Texas at Austin, where I received my BFA in 1987, with a focus in sculptural ceramics. I have been working with clay ever since! Inspired by process and nature, clay effortlessly became my primary medium of artistic expression.
I also design and create a limited amount of functional ceramic work.
