Tamara Cameron creates modern figurative ceramic sculptures. The female figure, primarily the torso, is the pervasive archetype in her work. It is a catalyst for finding purity of motion and a settled balance within a simple elegant form. The torsos are curvaceous and womanly. The method for developing each sculpture grows organically. They are created whole, then cut up and reassembled. Deconstruction and reconstruction combine to shape each new figure; coiling and building the piece pushing the boundaries of the clay to its physical limits. This process reveals a lifelong journey. Throughout our lives we readjust, reassemble and reinvent ourselves. The resulting forms are a static representation of the balance between movement and stability. Clay, like life, is best lived close to the edge.
