My work is stoneware, designed for use. The pots are fired to a very high temperature, making the clay very dense and durable. The intense ‘reduction’ firing process also transforms the glazes, making them darker and more complex.
I am inspired by pots of the past, and love the archetypal elegance of old pots, especially those made directly and rapidly for everyday use. Some of these pieces are celebrated now for their sculptural rigor and spiritual depth.
I am also inspired by the New Mexico landscape, whose primal scale and sense of time—of the past—finds its way into the look and feel of my work. I incorporate local clays and glaze materials in my pots, giving them a unique connection to this place.
